General Information

Welcome to the General Information page for the Absa Black Star Marathon. Here, you’ll find essential details about all our races and resources to help runners and participants prepare for race day.

The open registration starts from May 1, 2025 and ends on July 12, 2025. Interested participants can register on this website. Successfully registered participants will receive regular updates before and after the events to ensure that you have a stress-free experience.

Runners registered for the 2025 Absa Black Marathon are required to follow the following rules and regulations:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age (as of race day) to compete in the 42.2k marathon.
  • Participants must be 12 years old to participate in the 10k Run/Walk and must be accompanied by a guardian/parent.
  • Participants must complete and submit the official registration form during the registration period and agree to the Participant’s Agreement at the time of registration.

By submitting your application, you are agreeing to enter into the event, pay the required fee for your race category (and according to whether you are a Ghanaian national or an international participant), participate on race day, abide by the rules and the Conditions of Entry, the event conditions, and any instructions provided by the officials of the Absa Black Star Marathon.

Participants are subject to the rules of the Ghana Athletics Association. Wheelchair athletes are subject to the rules of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana. If there are any conflicts between these rules and the Agreement, the Agreement shall take precedence).

The Absa Black Star Marathon reserves the right to change the course or make any alterations to the event deemed necessary. Such changes will be communicated to participants as soon as practicable.

Use of Image

The event may be televised, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded and photographs may be taken, all of which may capture your participation in the event. All participants agree to the publication of such photographs, filming, recording, and broadcasts as their use by the organizer and those authorized by the organizer in any way deemed fit now or in the future, including but not limited to film, broadcast, radio, television, publications and publicity.

  • The Agreement shall be governed by the laws of Ghana and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Ghanaian courts.
  • The agreement does not create, confer, or purport to confer any benefit or right enforceable by any person not a party to it.
  • You agree that the Absa Black Star Marathon may publish your personal information as part of the results of the event and may pass such information to any affiliated organization for insurance, permits, or publishing the results of the event alone or combined with or compared to other events. Personal information may include but is not limited to, name, race completion times, occupation, nationality, age category, or other socio-demographic characteristics of participants.
  • Any breach of this Agreement shall render your entry void. If you are found to be in breach of the Agreement, the Absa Black Star Marathon reserved the right to exclude you from participation in future editions of the event and any other events held, controlled, and/or operated by the Absa Black Star Marathon.

Race Completion

Only runners who paid the required registration fees in full and completed the races (going through all sections of the routes) are eligible to receive their cash prizes, medals, certificates, and other prizes.

Drop Out & Course Closure

  • Runners who are unable to complete the race may stop for assistance from any of the ambulance services along the course
  • The Ghana Ambulance Service will move along each aid station to pick up runners who decide to abort their race
  • Finish area facilities officially close at 12 noon

Other Regulations

Moreover, all participants must comply with the following provisions:

  • This event will be carried out while abiding by all domestic laws and regulations
  • The event will adhere to all other rules and regulations set forth by the event organizer
  • The event organizer will not be liable for any detriments caused by the following:
    • Illness, communicable diseases (including COVID-19), and/or accidents (excluding emergency treatment)
    • Loss and/or damage of personal property
    • Late arrival to the race due to trouble with public transportation and/or poor road conditions
  • To execute a safe and effective event, the event organizer will enforce traffic control and security in the vicinity of the event
  • Runners are required to follow the instructions of the event organizer. Failure to do so will result on disqualification
  • The race routes are certified by the Ghana Athletics Association (working through the Ghana Mountain and Trail Federation). We will not accept any claims against the course measurement or the distance, based on personal devices, such as GPS tracking devices. Also, runners may be disqualified for missing the timing mat and/or key check points of if any form of race cheating or race banditry is discovered.
  • Copyright of images, photographs, articles, race records, location information, coverage of the event, and the usage right for television broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and other digital media productions belongs to the event organizer. The aforementioned copyright includes, but not limited to names and other personal information, such as age and address of entrants mentioned in articles and features covering the event and other media mentions.
  • The event organizer, in recognition of the importance of protecting the personal data of participants, the event organizer abides by all laws and ordinances concerning the protection of personal data and adheres to the event organizer’s own privacy policy when handling the personal data of participants.
  • The event organizer will provide adequate first aid to injured participants and the participants who fall sick during the event.)

Absa 42.2K Marathon

Our flagship event, the Absa 42.2k Marathon, is a full marathon open to men and women aged 18 and over, as well as racing wheelchair participants. Experience an exciting tour of Accra, Ghana’s vibrant capital city, while testing your endurance and resilience. This race welcomes elite athletes, club runners, and endurance enthusiasts, as well as recreational, social, and charity runners looking to support meaningful causes. Local (Ghanaian) and international athletes are invited to participate.
