National Sports Authority Pledges Support for Absa Black Star Marathon 2025

As preparations intensify for the 2025 edition of the Absa Black Star Marathon, organizers paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to formally invite the Authority to lend its support to the event.

During the meeting, the Absa Black Star Marathon team shared details of the upcoming race, scheduled for July 26, 2025, and emphasized the growing momentum and international attention the event is attracting.

It was also noted that this year’s marathon will not only feature elite athletes but will include Paralympic categories such as wheelchair races—underscoring a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community impact.

The organizers further highlighted the health advocacy component of the marathon, which includes a partnership with Trust Hospital to raise awareness and funds in support of individuals living with kidney disease.

In response, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah pledged the NSA’s unwavering support for the event, describing it as a commendable initiative that aligns perfectly with the Authority’s mission of promoting sports for development. He affirmed that the NSA is “ready and willing to support in any direction” and welcomed the marathon into the family of nationally recognized sporting events.

He further encouraged the team to intensify publicity efforts and expressed enthusiasm for the potential of Ghanaian athletes to shine on the global stage. “With the right support and consistent development, Ghana has the potential to produce world-class marathoners,” he said.

The delegation also extended a formal invitation to Mr. Ampofo Ankrah to attend both the opening ceremony and the awards presentation at the conclusion of the marathon. They requested additional collaboration from the NSA in engaging key stakeholders, including the Minister for Sports and Recreation and the Office of the President, to enhance the event’s visibility and secure high-level endorsement.

The prestigious 2025 Absa Black Star Marathon marks a significant return after a long hiatus, with last year’s comeback event receiving positive feedback and renewed interest from international participants—including strong representation from East African athletes.
