Black Star Marathon 2024: A Race to Remember

Accra, Ghana – July 27, 2024 – The Black Star Marathon 2024, held at the iconic Accra Sports Stadium, concluded with remarkable performances and an enthusiastic crowd cheering on athletes from around the world. The event showcased a range of categories, with competitors demonstrating both speed and endurance across various disciplines.

Marathon Results

Men’s 42.2km:

  • Wesley Kemboi from Kenya claimed the top spot with a time of 2:22:48, marking a standout performance.
  • Koogo Atia followed closely in 2:23:52, while Seidu Salifu secured third place with a time of 2:27:19.
  • Ishmael Fialor and Raja Lagble rounded out the top five with times of 2:28:08 and 2:34:12, respectively.

Women’s 42.2km:

  • Mumuni Christiana took the gold with a commendable time of 2:56:22.
  • Joyce Ayaaba came in second at 2:57:50, and Ayaade Colette from Benin finished third in 2:59:02.
  • Lariba Sakat and Azure Elizabeth completed the top five with times of 3:09:55 and 3:10:52.

Racing Wheelchair (Men’s 42.2km):

  • Raphael Botsoye Nkegbe crossed the finish line first with an impressive time of 2:17:29.
  • Emmanuel Yaw Boateng secured second place with 2:27:15, while Emmanuel Kwaku Gyesi finished third at 3:55:22.

10km Race Results

Men’s 10km:

  • David Nakoise led the men’s 10km race with a time of 38:55.
  • Ishmael Arthur and Ebenezer Martey followed with times of 39:84 and 40:16 respectively.

Women’s 10km:

  • Abigail Abugri took first place with a time of 50:11.7.
  • Esther Yakubu and Sonon Rufina secured the second and third positions with times of 50:29.78 and 52:05.81.

Wheelchair Categories

Regular/Everyday Wheelchair Men’s 10km:

  • David Amu finished first with a time of 1:03:53, followed by Bismark Kyei and Richmond Essel with times of 1:05:07 and 1:05:33, respectively.

Regular/Everyday Wheelchair Women’s 10km:

  • Janet Donkor achieved first place with 1:05:22.
  • Samuella Owusu-Ansah and Fatimadu Moro rounded out the top three with times of 1:01:02 and 1:03:21.

Special Recognition

Among the competitors, 11-year-old Sandra Boinde stole the show with her extraordinary achievement. She finished the marathon in twelfth position with a time of 2:03:27, highlighting the remarkable talent and spirit of young athletes.
